Research Trends in Science and Mathematics Education in South Korea 2014–2018: A Cross-Disciplinary Analysis of Publications in Selected Local Journals

Abstract Although science education and mathematics share many characteristics as neighboring research disciplines, comparisons between the two fields in literature have rarely been made. In this study, we examine fields’ similarities differences local context of South Korea by analyzing 2,426 articles published 15 selected journals from both fields. The analysis revealed interesting commonalities divergences across fields, suggesting a high degree similarity distribution topics Nevertheless, some were more frequently studied one field than other. Based on results, suggest that understanding ongoing agendas aims adjacent disciplines such will be beneficial to community allowing self-reflection facilitating interdisciplinary communication collaboration. Several potential ways which can cross-fertilize are discussed.
